ABOUT

About Norz Hill Farm

Our Mission at Norz Hill Farm and Market is to continue to sustainably maintain the land and environment while presenting a beautiful country atmosphere for our neighbors from near and far to enjoy! We've been doing this for four generations and will continue our commitment to providing healthy and nutritious food, education, and fun for all!

Norz Hill Farm and Market, LLC is owned and operated by Richard Norz, Sr., Rich, and Debbie Norz, and their children Alex, Susie, and Megan.

Norz-Hill Farm and Market consists of 1200 acres of owned and rented ground. We grow crops of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, timothy hay, rye, pumpkins, sweet corn, tomatoes, and other vegetables. The home farm is in the New Jersey Farmland Preservation Program. Other operations of the farm include raising dairy replacement heifers and other kinds of animals, such as horses, sheep, goats, llamas, and even three zonkeys, to name a few. We have our meats and produce available at our roadside market during the summer and fall, where we sell Jersey Fresh vegetables grown right here on the farm. During the fall, we also have many educational and fun family activities such as picking your own pumpkins, hayrides, farm tours, a corn maze, and even a haunted trail—Scare Farm!

Our family started farming at the present location in 1920 when Rich, Sr.'s grandparents, began the farm. In 1962, at the age of 16, Rich Sr. took over the farm operation after his father's passing. Rich Jr joined in operating Norz-Hill Farm and Market as a fourth-generation family member after graduating high school in 1987.

Through the years, we have valued working with top cow families as a high priority with our dairy. As a result, we have been fortunate to have developed high-type, show-winning, high-index cow families. We've placed over 40 bulls in A.I. and have marketed embryos and cattle worldwide. In the show circuit, we have been successful at National, Regional, and State Shows.

Debbie Norz speaking to guests at Norz Hill FarmFun fact: In 1991, we started a sideline business doing "Cow Advertising." Yes, it's a thing! Some of the cows you see in magazines and on television call Norz-Hill Farm and Market "home!" These cows have an agent based in New York City and many times "commute" from the farm to the city to do their jobs. Our bovine stars have performed and have been photographed on NBC News, Saturday Night Live, the cover of Newsweek, with Martha Stewart in the "got milk?" ads—and even on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange! They've been the stars on the Chick-Fil-A "Eat More Chicken" calendar as well. They have also gone up to the 8th floor of Rockefeller Center and been (pretend) "blown up" on Saturday Night Live—no worries. She made it out unharmed! They have stood in a mud puddle with Martha Stewart and logged countless road hours making their many trips through the Lincoln tunnel into New York City.

Since 2000 we have been growing pumpkins. We started wholesaling them in 2002. With the decrease in the number of farms in the area, we saw an opportunity to provide the community with the Halloween activities they have become accustomed to, adding our own unique Norz Hill flare. Now, in September and October, we offer hayrides, pick-your-own pumpkins, a corn maze, farm tours, pony rides, and many other family fun activities. We also host the now-infamous Scare Farm, where you can get fully terrorized through the haunted corn trails—including Creepy Hollow, Paranoia Walking Trails, and The Slayride. Tickets are available for weekend dates beginning in September and running through Halloween night. See "The Legend" page for more haunted details. Come visit us during our Fall Harvest Days and see how much fun you and your family will have down on the farm!

During the summer months, we have our own Jersey Fresh produce stand. We offer white and bi-color sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini and many other farm-fresh vegetables and fruit grown right here on our farm.

Photo of Norz Hill Farm sign outside on the propertyAnother proud accomplishment for us was at the New Jersey State Agriculture Convention when Rich Jr. was named the New Jersey Outstanding Young Farmer for 2010. Then in February of that year, Rich and Debbie traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina for the national competition and were very honored to be named one of four National Outstanding Young Farmers by the US Jaycees.

We have been lucky to have a large, supportive family, the assistance of great employees, and the friendship of our neighbors—both near and far.

We are looking forward to the up and coming 5th generation who will operate Norz-Hill Farm; Alex, Susie and Megan.

What People Are Sayin'

Patty Willson from Whitehouse Station, New Jersey describes the joy and experience of bringing children struggling with behavior disorders to Norz Hill Farm. Having the kids experience the pumpkin fields, hay rides and playing with the animals was a highlight for the kids. In addition to the fun, the kids were able to learn about where their food comes from and how it arrives at their kitchen tables.
